Health & Safety Protocol

The KLEZCADIA festival is a “Safer Shtetl” event. We prioritize the safe experience of our immunocompromised/high-risk participants. While there is no way to completely eliminate risk, we are committed to making this environment as safe as possible. A big shout-out to Masks4EastVan for providing us with masks and testing supplies!

All in-person participants are required to acknowledge in writing that they will abide by and support the following health protocols:

  • physical spacing and strict capacity limits in all indoor venues.
  • daily verbal assurance from each participant regarding (1) feeling well, (2) having no symptoms of illness (cold/flu/COVID), and (3) having had no exposure within the past week to anyone who is ill.
  • daily onsite RAT testing for COVID-19 (provided only after the above assurances are given) that yields a negative result.
  • proper indoor use of N95/KN95 masks at all times onsite except (1) during the swab portion of testing, (2) when playing wind/brass instruments, or (3) when demonstrating vocal techniques. These activities will be assigned to spaces equipped with extra ventilation and air-purification devices.
  • eating/drinking at Festival venues only in outdoor areas.
  • the presence of supplemental air-purification devices such as Corsi-Rosenthal boxes, as well as their ambient sound.
  • respect for personal space and contact boundaries, both indoors and outdoors.

We understand that these health protocols may be problematic for some attendees. If this is the case for you, you are welcome to attend KLEZCADIA events via their hybrid presentation: Zoom (for workshops and classes) or livestream (for concerts and open rehearsals), but you will not be permitted to attend in person except for the outdoor Festival Finale concert.

Regarding our physical-security safety: All KLEZCADIA events will take place within a 10-minute drive from downtown Victoria. Specific venue information will be provided only after registration, and only to in-person participants. Please do not share this information with non-registrants.

KLEZCADIA is a place to learn, create, and experience klezmer music and Yiddish culture. KLEZCADIA is not a political forum. While at KLEZCADIA, whether virtually or in person, please do your part to keep the space focused on klezmer music and Yiddish culture. Remember that this is an intentionally pluralistic space. Please be present in a way that contributes to it and its venues being places of safety, welcome, and respect for all participants in this community. A sheynem dank…thank you very much.
